Despite being so far away from home, Sarah and I were not alone for Canada Day. Well, not Canada Day itself, but a week before, we joined other Canadians working in the valley area for a Canada Day picnic.

The Digital Moose Lounge, which is an organization for Canadians working in Silicon Valley, puts on an annual Canada Day picnic. For $25 each, Sarah and I enjoyed tons of BBQ food, unlimited buffet, and get this, unlimited beer! That's right, they had a bar with Canadian beer (Canadian and Blue), wine, and it was free and bottomless :) There was even a road hockey game.
The event was sponsored by the University of Waterloo and a few companies in the area which deal with immigration and taxes - two things that are especially important to Canucks in the valley. Among the Canadian schwag offered (Canada flag tattoos, stickers, and pins), there were also some Canadian sweets for sale like Coffee Crisp, Smarties, and Tim Hortons coffee.
A while back, the city of Toronto started the
Moose in the City promotional campaign. Well, as it turns out, one of those Moose escaped and made it all the way down to California. It appears from time to time when large groups of Canadians gather.

Sarah and I got our obligatory photo with the "Data Moose". We had a really good time and met a couple other Californian Canucks. We hope to attend some more DML events and meet some more hosers down here in Sunny California.
After the events wound down, Sarah and I went for a short walk and found a perfect place to hide a geocache. We actually did some reconnaissance before going to the picnic and found several places that would work to hide a cache, but we lucked out that a great hiding spot was right near the picnic grounds.

We filled the cache with Canadian patches, stickers, tattoos, pins, and even a Canada Day visor, and geocache #
GC2Z0A5: Californian Canucks #1 was officially placed.
Did you guys decode all the binary written on the moose?
